Notes: This species shows notable morphological variation, as discussed in the comments under the genus Raritebe. In particular plants of Central America show broad variation in number of leaves per node and the size of the blades and petioles, as well as inflorescence size and arrangement and flower size. Also notable is the variation documented by Kirkbride (1979) in floral biology, with var. palicoureoides distylous but var. dwyerianum homostylous.
Distribution: Nicaragua to Colombia, and to Venezuela, Peru, and western Brazil.
