Notes:
This species is characterized by its somewhat small leaves, tubular stipules with scattered glands, unusual inflorescences with solitary subsessile flowers enclosed by one or two pairs of well developed bracts, rather short truncate calyx limbs, and funnelform corollas. Zappi (2003: 540-542, fig. 4A-D) presented a description and illustrations of some morphological detials. A similar inflorescence arrangement is found in Rudgea vallis of the Andes, though that species may have more than one flower.
