Notes: This species is characterized by its somewhat small leaves, its short ligulate to triangular stipules with well developed glands along the top, its laxly cymose several-flowered inflorescences with well developed axes, its medium-sized flowers, and its rather small yellow fruits. A description and illustration were presented by Zappi (2003: 565-568, fig. 8L-W), who recognized two subspecies. Rudgea minor is similar to Rudgea crassiloba.
Distribution: The typical subspecies is found in restinga and vegetation on gneiss outcrops at 0-200 m in southeastern Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states; Subsp. calycina is known from Atlantic forest vegetation around Gauanbara Bay in Rio de Janeiro state.
