Notes:
This species is characterized by a tree habit, medium-sized elliptic leaves with a cuneate to rounded apex, well developed peduncles, subcapitate bracteate inflorescences, corollas ca. 15 mm long, and fruits 6-8 mm long. The leaves and peduncles vary markedly in size, perhaps in correlation with the local habitat. It is similar to Guettarda scabra and Guettarda ovalifolia, and these can be subtle to separate.
