This species of robust, glabrous shrubs and trees is characterized by its generally rather large leaves; its well developed calyptrate stipules that generally leave a well developed persistent basal portion after they fall off; terminal, cymose, ebracteate inflorescences; well developed truncate calyx limb; fleshy, rather large corollas; and large fruits.
