Notes
:
This species is characterized by medium-sized to rather robust leaves, small laminar bilobed stipules, paniculiform inflorescences with the flowers borne in several subcapitate heads enclosed by developed bracts, small white to yellow corollas that are abruptly flared near the middle, and small spongy blue fruits. This species shows variation, in particular inflorescence and flower head size, in the southern part of its range; more study may clarify the systematics of this species. Some confusion about the separation of subgoups within this species has been due to the marked change in size between the flower heads of young inflorescences and mature infructescences. Palicourea caerulea is similar to Palicourea brachiata, and those species have been combined (or confused) by some authors.
