Notes: This name is applied here following Chen et al. (2011), to plants with small to medium-sized, usually oblanceolate leaves that are shortly petiolate and acute but not sharp at the apex, congested-cymose terminal inflorescences, and red to yellow corollas with tubes 2-3 cm long. This species is widely but somewhat sporadically cultivated. The name Ixora chinensis has also been incorrectly applied to several other cultivated Ixoras. Ixora chinensis is similar in particular to Ixora coccinea, with sessile elliptic leaves. Ixora chinensis is also frequently confused with Ixora casei, with larger elliptic leaves with more numerous secondary veins and usually longer petioles.
Distribution: Native of southeastern Asia, occasionally and widely cultivated.
