This species is characterized by its laciniate stipules with narrow well developed lobes, together with its dense pubescence. Most of the specimens of this species are from north central Madagascar; the northern record is one collection, Miller et al. 3326 from near Marojejy, and Puff & Buchner (1994) commented that this specimen is provisionally classified here and unusual in several features.
