Geophila cordifolia Miq., Stirp. Surinam. Select. 176. 1851.

Plantas pilosas. Hojas ovadas, 2.5–7 cm de largo y 1.5–8 cm de ancho, ápice agudo, base cordada con las aurículas separadas, papiráceas, nervios secundarios 3–5 pares; pecíolos 1–13 cm de largo, estípulas 2–6 mm de largo, persistentes. Inflorescencias con pedúnculos 0.5–5 cm de largo, flores 5–15; limbo calicino ca 3 mm de largo; tubo corolino 2–4.5 mm de largo, lobos 1.5–2.5 mm de largo. Frutos ovoides a elipsoides, 6–8 mm de largo y 3–4 mm de ancho, anaranjados; pirenos acostillados.

Esperada en Nicaragua; Belice y Costa Rica a Brasil. Esta especie se confunde frecuentemente con Coccocypselum, que se distingue por sus flores generalmente azules a moradas y frutos azules y abayados con varias semillas pequeñas.
