Note:
Protologue cited "Wild. MSS" for documentation. Roemer & Schultes later (Syst. Veg. 5: 13-14. 1819) cited this name and attributed it to the Willdenow herbarium specimen Hoffmannsegg s.n., with the locality "ad ostrium fluminus Amazona circa Gran Para". Schumann 1889 cited apparently this specimen as "herb. Wiilld. 4047", and this probably corresponds to the type. Some other sources have cited Sellow s.n. as the type, but he did not travel to Brazil until 1814, and that may be a confusion between Borreria umbellata Spreng., which seems to be based on a Sellow collection, and was confused by Candolle (Prodr. 4: 575, 1830) with Machaonia brasiliensis of Cham. & Schlecht.
