Notes: This species is characterized by its rather robust habit, stipules with truncate sheaths and triangular acute lobes, pyramidal orange to red inflorescences with developed pedicels, stout and fleshy, tubular, deep red corollas, and rather large rounded fruits. It is similar to Palicourea chimboracensis, Palicourea ovalis, and Palicourea demissa.
Distribution: Premontane wet forest in western central Ecuador.
