Notes: This species is characterized by its rather slender habit, short stipules, ovate leaves that are cordate and often clasping at the base, and short corymbiform inflorescences with well developed bracts. This species is generally similar to Psychotria cardiomorpha, which has slender branched inflorescences and shorter bracts, and several other species of Palicourea and Psychotria subg. Heteropsychotria; for the separation of these species, see the key on the Rubiaceae Project page for Psychotria cardiomorpha.
Distribution: Lowland humid vegetation, at least often on white sand substrates, in the northeastern Amazon basin in Brazil.
