Notes:

This species is characterized by subsessile, glomerulate inflorescences, rather well developed calyx limb, corollas with spreading hirsute pubescence, and leaves abaxially (but not adaxially) covered with white, arachnoid or pannose pubescence. The abaxial leaf pubescence is characteristically flocked rather than a uniform covering. Khan (2007) confused some specimens of Sabicea velutina with Sabicea oblongifolia, nomenclaturally as well as in identifications, but these differ in calyx form and the distribution of the abaxial leaf pubescence.

Distribution: Wet vegetation at 50-200 m widely in northeastern South America, in eastern Venezuela through the Guianas and northeastern Brazil. This species was also reported by Steyermark from Trinidad, but that has not been confirmed in this study.
