Notes:
This species was described only briefly as a note in the protologue discussion of Hippotis albiflora, and not illustrated and no specific specimen was cited for it. Hippotis peruviana was described as having obovate pilose leaves, 3-flowered cymes with short peduncles, and subsessile red flowers, and Warszewicz was credited for finding the plant in Peru and showing it to Karsten. The characters of Hippotis peruviana agree with the most commonly collected species of this genus in Peru, Hippotis brevipes, and it is probably an older name for this species. However it would be preferable to search thoroughly for original material of Hippotis peruviana and formally clarify its typification before using this name to replace the well documented name Hippotis brevipes.
