Notes:

This species is characterized by strigillose to strigose pubescence, sylleptic branching, medium-sized leaves, closely lineolate higher-order venation with the tertiary and quaternary venation similar, multiflowered pedunculate inflorescences with arched monochasial axes, yellow to orange corollas ca. 10 mm long, and mediums-sized oblong-ellipsoid fruits. It has markedly channeled trunks, but does not seem to be spiny. In some stages of flower and fruit development, Chomelia venulosa can be confused with Pittoniotis.

Distribution: Wet forest, 500-900 m, Costa Rica and Panama.
