Notas
:
This species is characterized by its rather slender habit, often obovate leaves with well developed foveolate domatia, interpetiolar ovate stipules, fasciculate inflorescences with the axes terminating in a single group of flowers, short calyx limbs together with rather well developed corollas, and habitat in dry vegetation. It is somewhat variable morphologically, which has led to some confusion about its identification. This species has been most often treated as Psychotria oerstediana or Psychotria quinqueradiata, but recent study finds an older name than these for it. Psychotria subsessilis is similar to Psychotria nervosa and Psychotria psychotriifolia, and sometimes also confused with Psychotria horizontalis because these two species grow in similar habitats.
