Notes : This species is characterized by its large stipules, generally large leaves, generally relatively larger inflorescences, somewhat small funnelform corollas, and woody capsules. It is similar to Stilpnophyllum lineatum, which is now known from the same region but had not yet been found when Andersson worked on this flora (1994), and these have been confused. Their flowers are very similar, but these species differ in the other features noted in the key to genus on the Stilpnophyllum page.
Distribution : Wet forests of the Cordillera del Cóndor and eastern slopes of the main Andes (Parque Nacional Podocarpus) in southern Ecuador at ca. 920-2050 m, generally on quartzite and sandstone-derived substrates.
