This species is charcterized by its shortly tubular stipules that are persistent with the leaves, medium-sized oblanceolate leaves, terminal several-flowered inflorescences that is quite shortly cymose, short calyx limbs, and small corollas with the tubes shorter than the lobes. The type specimen dried clear green. The corollas have tubes ca. 2 mm long and shorter than the lobes according to Borhidi (2012); these are in bud on the type specimen. The fruits have not been seen. This species is apparently poorly documented, and the type locality is not entirely clear.
Faramea liebmannii is similar to Faramea multiflora, which apparently has larger more branched inflorescences and longer corollas with tubes 6-16 mm long and longer than the lobes. The type specimen of Faramea liebmannii is also similar to Faramea brachysiphon, which has smaller leaves, slightly longer corollas, and a range from Belize to Nicarauga; if these are not distinct, then the name Faramea liebmannii is the older and has priority for the combined species.
