Notes: This species is characterized by its inflorescences with the flowers solitary to several and subsessile to fasciculate on peduncles to 1.5 cm long, well developed calyx limb that is lobed nearly to the base with the lobes lanceolate and acuminate, and quite slender capsules ca. 2 mm in diameter. The flowers of this species have not yet been documented. The distinctive calyx limb is deciduous as the fruits mature, but the inflorescence arrangement of this species is unique in the genus. A similarly well developed calyx limb is found in Joosia longisepala, which has larger leaves and a pedunculate cymose inflorescences.
Distribution: Wet forest vegetation at 900-1500 m on the eastern Andean slopes, central to southern Ecuador.
