Annotation: Kaastra (1982; Fl. Neotrop. Monogr. 33: 38) rejected Baillon's validation of this name because it was "only mentioned incidentally," invoking ICBN Art. 34.3 (= 34.2 of the current Code). However, there is no such language in the Code, and nothing at all wrong with Baillon's validation of E. berlandieri. He states that it is closely related to Picrella (a genus he has just described as new), but refers it to Esenbeckia under the name E. berlandieri; there follows an ample Latin diagnosis.
Nomenclature Reason: isonym; Hemsley himself did not claim this as his own, but (rightly) ascribed it to Baillon.
