Arboles, 8–12 m de alto, troncos armados con acúleos, occasionally ramitas with few to numerous straight spines, without short-shoots, without zig-zag growth form; apical bud 1 mm de ancho, densely puberulent; ramitas 3-5 mm de ancho, densely puberulent. Hojas alternately evenly distributed, imparipinnadas, 26-41 cm de largo, rachis terete, 1.5-2 mm de ancho; folíolos 9-15, lateral folíolos wide elípticos (rarely oblanceolate or elliptic), 5.5-12.5 cm de largo y 2.5-3.8 cm de ancho, ápice obtuse then cuspidate or acuminado, base inaequilateral acute or acute and obtuse, margen inconspicuamente serrulate, slightly revolute at leaset at base, puberulent to glabrous, chartaceous, 10-15 pairs of secondary veins; petioule 2-6 mm de largo. Panículas terminales or subterminal, 8-16 cm de largo, 3 or 4 times branched, rachis terete, densely puberulentas, pedicels 0.5-0.7 mm de largo y 0.2-0.3 mm de ancho sparse to densely puberulent; flowers 5-merous; sépalos ovate, 1/5-1/4 length of petals, glabrous to sparsely puberulent and ciliate, persistent; pétalos 1.5-1.7 mm de largo; carpels 3 (-5). Folículos 1-3 with remnants of 1 ó 2 aborted carpels, free, 4-5 mm de largo, glabrous, without stipe; seeds ca 4 mm de largo.

Poco común, bosques húmedos, zona atlántica; 100–180 m; fr sep; Nee 27839, Sandino 4507; southern Mexico a Panamá.
