Perennial herb, usually suffruticose but often scarcely so in cultivars. Stems glandular-pubescent, ± erect. Leaves linear to ovate, 10-70 x 1-10 mm, cuneate at base, shortly petiolate. Raceme dense to lax, glandular-pubescent (in specimens seen from Pakistan: thus nearest to var. angustifolium Chav., Monogr. Antirrh. 86. 1833) or glabrous. Bracts ovate, 2-10 mm. Pedicels 8 mm in fruit. Calyx lobes ovate-oblong, 5-8 mm, much shorter than corolla tube. Corolla violet, purple, pink, yellow or white, 30-45 mm; palate yellow. Capsule oblong, 8-10 mm, glandular-pubescent. Seeds oblong, c. 0.7-1 x 0.5-0.8 mm, with fuscous, deeply foveolate testa.
