Comment/Acknowledgements:

Moist fields and edges of water channels, from the plains to 1525 m. The juice is used for dysentery and as a sedative, and as an expectorant in bronchitis.

Annual or biennial, 30-100 cm. Stems erect, unbranched except in inflorescence, loosely greyish-pubescent with simple eglandular and usually also glandular hairs, often viscid especially above. Radical leaves petiolate (petiole 10-30 mm or longer), lamina lyrate-pinnatifid, 40-100 x 20-35 mm or larger, segments acute, regularly dentate to crenate, terminal one much larger. Cauline leaves mostly sessile or subsessile, ovate to triangular-lanceolate, 20-100 x 5-40 mm, crenate to denticulate. Inflorescence a lax, many-flowered raceme, 30-60 cm, simple or with 1-2 lateral branches which sometimes overtop main axis; axis glanular-hairy or –villous, rarely eglandular-hairy. Bracts cordate or ovate- to lanceolate-triangular, acuminate, glandular, shorter than fruiting pedicels. Flowers solitary in axils of bracts. Pedicels glandular, 4-10 mm in fruit. Calyx 2.5-4.5 mm, glandular-pubescent to –villous, lobes ovate-oblong, entire or with few shallow marginal teeth. Corolla yellow, 10-15 mm diam., usually glandular outside and sparingly velutinous to middle of upper lobes within. Stamens 4. Filaments all equal and with dense yellowish or reddish wool ± up to anthers. Anthers all reniform, medifixed. Capsule ovoid-globose, 4.5-7 x 3.5-6 mm, glandular, later glabrescent.
