Erect annual herb, 4-10 cm. Stem simple or laxly branched, with short retrorse scabrid hairs on angles. Leaves subsessile, ovate-orbicular or suborbicular, 3-25 x 3-25 mm, pinnately veined, acutely crenate-serrate, glabrous above, sparsely hirsute on veins beneath, shortly ciliate at margin. Flowers solitary and axillary or in lax racemes. Pedicels absent or to 15 mm, glabrous below, very sparsely pubescent below calyx. Bracts setaceous, 0.7-1 mm. Calyx campanulate, 1.5 mm in flower, accrescent in fruit to 2-3 mm, lobed to near middle; lobes subacute, sparsely pubescent on veins and at margins. Corolla c. 7 mm, violet or pink, lateral lobes of anterior lip white; tube sparsely glandular outside, densely lanate on ventral side within; posterior lip broadly ovate, 3 x 2.5 mm, emarginate, microscopically papillose at margin; anterior lip c. 4 mm, 3-lobed. Stamens 4, all fertile; anterior filaments with densely papillose basal geniculum. Capsule 5-6 x 2 mm, linear-cylindrical, ½-2 x persistent calyx, glabrous, translucent at maturity.
