4--6 m de alto, ramitas 4-anguladas, con numerosas crestas longitudinales, glabras excluding pilose in leaf axils and slightly puberulent in line crossing nodes. Hojas opuestas, elípticas, oblong or lanceolate, 5.5--20 cm de largo y 3.5--8 cm de ancho, ápice acuminado (acute), base cuneada, margen entero, haz glabra y algo lustrosa, envés with axilas de los nervios secundarios con el nervio principal with stiff, straight hairs to 1 mm long, or similar trichomes along length of these veins, the lamina itself glabrate, coriáceas o membranáceas, 4–5 pares de nervios secundarios, nervios terciarios inconspicuos pero visibles en ambas superficies; pecíolo 1—2 cm de largo, glabro. Inflorescencia terminal y axilar, no ramificada, or with few lateral branches, 10--18 cm de largo, raquis puberulent, pedicelo ca 2 mm de largo, puberulent; cáliz 4.5--7 mm de largo, débilmente 5-acostillado, no estriado, superficie externa sparsely puberulent or glabra con tricomas diminutos en el ápice, superficie interna puberulenta, ápice with 4 teeth 1—1.5 mm long, with 1 tooth emarginate; corola white (amarilla). Infructescencia laxa, pedicelos 2--3 mm de largo, cáliz striate; fruto obovoid-globose.

Rara, Reserva de Bosawas; 135--185 m; fl oct; Coronado 1827, 2408; Guatemala y Nicaragua. Differs from the type in calyx with only 4 distinct teeth with one emarginated (vs 5 distinct teeth). Coronado 2408 was reported as a bejuco with yellow flowers.
