Plants small, ca. 4–6 mm high, in loose tufts. Stems erect, simple, short, only up to 1 mm long, with sparse rhizoids at base. Leaves shortly ovate-lanceolate, gradually acuminate at apex; margins entire and plane; costa thick, shortly excurrent, ending in a short awn; leaf cells thin-walled, upper cells elliptic to oblong-hexagonal, 21–40 µm × 12–14 µm; basal cells elongate-rectangular, 45–60 µm × ca. 16 µm; marginal cells linear-rectangular, forming an indistinct, hyaline border. Autoicous. Setae yellowish red, thick, ca. 2.0–2.5 mm long; capsules erect, symmetric, oblong-obovoid, 1.2–1.5 mm × 0.7 mm, neck short, stomata present, simple; opercula small, shortly conic-rostrate; annuli persistent; peristome absent. Calyptrae mitrate, smooth. Spores spherical, yellowish, smooth.
