A single species in the Neotropics, G. vernicosa (Hook.) M. Fleisch. (Mexico, Central America, West Indies, Galapagos Islands, Brazil); six species largely associated with Africa and Australasia. The genus is characterized by the small plant stature, obovate-oblong leaves, weak costa that extending to ca. 3/4 the leaf length, a centrally positioned stereid band, rather large, 1-3 papillae per laminal cell, and absence of a peristome.
Sólo una especie en el Neotrópico, G. orcuttii E.B. Bartram en Orcutt (México, Centro América, Caribe, Islas Galápagos y Brasil); seis especies muy asociadas con África y Australasia. El género se caracterizada por las planta de estatura reducida, hojas obovado-oblongas, costa débil que se extiende aproximadamente hasta 3/4 de la longitud de la hoja, una fila central de estereidas, 1-3 papilas bastante grandes en las células de la lámina y sin peristoma.
