Plants medium-sized to large, green or yellowish green, in loosely caespitose mats. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched; central strand weakly differentiated; pseudoparaphyllia filamentous or foliose. Stem leaves erect, elongate-ovate, gradually lanceolate; margins plane, entire or barely serrulate above; costae single, reaching to leaf apex, sometimes curved at upper part; median leaf cells rhomboidal to elongate-rhomboidal; alar cells not distinctly differentiated. Dioicous or autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves with a single, thick costa. Setae long slender, reddish or purple, curved when dry; capsules cylindrical, suberect, curved at back, mouth constricted when dry or after dissemination; annuli differentiated; cilia 2–3, nodulose. Spores 9–19 mm in diameter, minutely papillose.
