Pleurochaete contains 4-5 species; a single species, Pleurochaete luteola (Besch.) Thér., in the Neotropics. The genus is characterized by the distinct border (base V-shaped) that extends above the shoulders, generally half the limb length, toothed margins, two stereid bands, best developed below, and pluripapillose laminal cells.
 
Pleurochaete contiene 4-5 especies; sólo una especie ha sido registrada en el Neotrópico, Pleurochaete luteola (Besch.) Thér. El género se caracteriza por el borde conspicuo (base en forma de V) que se extiende encima de los hombros, generalmente hasta la mitad de la longitud del limbo, márgenes dentados, dos bandas de estereidas, mejor desarrolladas abajo y células de la lámina pluripapilosas.
