The characteristics of the genus Rauiella include: plants only pinnately branched, apices of stem leaves not papillose, paraphyllia filamentous to foliose, leaf cells multipapillose, and perichaetial leaves not ciliate. Rauiella consists of eight species in the world, and only one species is found in China.

13. Rauiella Reim. 硬羽藓属 ying-yu xian shu
Hedwigia 76: 287. 1937.
 
Plants rather small to medium-sized, up to 3 cm long, brownish green to yellowish green, not shining, rigid when dry, in loose interwoven mats. Stems creeping, spreading, regularly pinnately branched; apex of branches caudate; central strand present; paraphyllia numerous, filamentous or foliose, often forked, apical cell multipapillose. Stem leaves and branch leaves differentiated; stem leaves ovate or cordate at base, gradually or suddenly narrowed to a lanceolate apex; margins almost entire or slightly serrulate; costa rather thick, ending at upper portion of leaf; leaf cells oblong to rounded quadrate, thick-walled, multipapillose; branch leaves ovate or ovate-triangular, with a short acute apex. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves lanceolate, widely ovate at base; margins serrate, but not ciliate; laminal cells linear, smooth; costa percurrent or excurrent. Setae slender, more than 1 cm long, reddish brown or yellowish brown, smooth; capsules erect-patent or horizontal, reddish brown, oblong-ovate to cylindrical; annuli differentiated; peristome double; exostome teeth narrowly lanceolate, yellowish brown, hyaline at apex, papillose; endostome segments yellowish, finely papillose; basal membrane high, at least 1/3 the length of endostome segments; cilia 2–3, hyaline, finely papillose. Calyptrae cucullate. Spores nearly spherical, finely papillose.
