Notes:
A monospecific genus, Rhytidium is characterized by its robust, ascending habit, falcate, rugose leaves, single costa, median cells smooth, and others strongly papillose at cell angle, and thick-walled, subquadrate alar cells assist in the recognition of the genus. Rhytidium is placed in the Hylocomiaceae by some authors.
