Notes:
A monospecific genus characterized by the oblong-obovate to spathulate leaves that are tubulose when dry, ventral and dorsal surface of costa with cells elongate and smooth, stereid bands above and below guide cells, and adaxial surface of lamina bulging. Hyophiladelphus, allied with the subfamily Pottioideae and most closely related to Hymenostyliella, was previously placed in Barbula.
