Plants medium-sized, deep green, in loose tufts. Stems erect, 2–4(–6) cm high, simple or branched. Leaves tubulosely involute or crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, ovate-lanceolate, 5–8 mm long, abruptly acuminate from a sheathing base; margins plane, serrate above; costae percurrent or subpercurrent, mammillose at ventral side below, dorsally spinulosely papillose in the upper part of leaves; upper leaf cells rounded-quadrate or hexagonal, 8–13 µm wide, slightly thickening at corners, papillose ventrally; basal cells narrowly rectangular, with 2–5 papillae on each cell dorsally; submarginal cells linear. Autoicous. Setae 1.5–2.5 cm long, reddish purple; capsules ellipsoidal, inclined or horizontal, reddish brown, curved at neck; opercula shortly conic; peristome double; exostome teeth lanceolate, finely papillose below, coarsely papillose above; endostome segments consisting of 64 papillose threads, yellowish or whitish; basal membrane high; cilia well developed, nodulose. Spores 10–14 µm in diameter, yellow, roughened or finely papillose.
