Plants robust, yellowish green, glossy, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or multi-branched, up to 20 cm high, 1.2 cm wide with leaves, usually radiculose throughout; stems and branches angled in cross section, central strand present. Leaves ovate-lanceolate, ca. 8 mm × 1.5 mm, squarrose, longitudinally plicate, narrowed, auriculate at base; margins serrate to spinulose at apex; apical leaf cells linear; median cells linear-rectangular, 40–60 µm × 4–5 µm, thick-walled, dorsally papillose; marginal cells enlarged, hyaline at sheathing base, 45–65 µm × 30–35 µm, thin-walled; alar cells well developed. Dioicous. Setae ca. 3–5 cm long; capsules ovoid, ca. 5 mm × 3 mm, horizontal or pendulous, strongly furrowed when dry; peristome double. Spores 15–25 µm in diameter, papillose.
