Plants relatively robust, yellowish green, in loose tufts. Stems almost erect, ca. 6 cm high, densely foliate. Leaves triangular- to ovate-lanceolate, wide-spreading, strongly squarrose, slenderly acuminate at the apex, not filiform, distinctly sheathing at base, nearly truncate at insertion, clearly longitudinally plicate at sheathing base; margins serrate above, entire below; leaf cells narrowly rectangular to linear or obliquely rectangular, 20–40 µm × 5–7 µm, papillose at upper ends, rather thick-walled. Sporophytes not seen.
