Bryum canariense appears to be characterized by large plants to 3 cm, distally crowded oblong leaves to 4 mm, acute apex, short excurrent costa, recurved to ca. 3/4 leaf length and distally weakly serrulate or serrate margins, absent or weakly bordered with 1(2) rows linear cells. Most of our recent collections are tentatively named. Bryum coloratum Müll. Hal. is a synonym; collected by Lorentz from “Su. Luis et Amareta,” (Department of Tarija; actrual locality names are San Luis = Entre Ríos, and Amereta).
