Habitat: on mountain forest ground and in grass; alt. 2500–3600 m..
Distribution: China, Nepal, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.

Plants medium-sized, somewhat rigid, gregarious. Stems single, ca. 3 cm long. Basal leaves small, scale-like, sheathing base indistinct; upper leaves ovate-lanceolate, strongly crisped when dry, up to 7 mm long; leaf margins sharply toothed; costa brown, excurrent, dentate on the back in the upper part; lamellae numerous on the ventral surface, covering ca. 2/3 the leaf width, 4–6 cells high, in cross section the apical cells of lamellae rounded, thick-walled, smooth; upper leaf cells broad and short; basal leaf cells rectangular, thick-walled. Setae brown, ca. 3 cm long; capsules shortly cylindrical, erect or inclined; exothecial cells smooth; peristome teeth 32, with brown stripes. Calyptrae covering the whole capsule. Spores globose, hyaline, 7–10 µm in diameter.
