Plants medium-sized, brownish green, in small, in loose mats. Stems erect, simple, up to 5 cm long, rarely branched, naked in the lower part. Upper leaves crowded, contorted when dry, erect-spreading when moist, shortly lanceolate from an ovate sheathing base; margins bistratose, 5 cells wide, coarsely toothed; costa broad below, slender above, toothed on the back in the upper part of leaves; lamellae densely covering on ventral side of leaves, 3–5 cells high, in cross section apical cells of lamellae ovate, often double, frequently geminate or geminate below, subapical cells plane, quadrate or rectangular; leaf cells quadrate or rectangular. Dioicous. Perigonia terminal, discoid; perigonial leaves broadly ovate, apiculate and dentate above. Setae brownish red, 4–5 cm long; capsules erect, shortly cylindrical, 3 mm long, constricted below the mouth; opercula long beaked. Calyptrae covering with dense long hairs.
