Plants small to medium-sized, 10–20 mm high or higher, green or yellowish green or brownish, in loose or dense tufts. Stems erect, often branched, with brownish rhizoids at base. Leaves rather dense, flexuous or curved when dry, spreading when moist, lanceolate, 1.3–2.2 mm × 0.4–0.6 mm, slenderly acuminate at apex; margins plane, sometimes recurved, serrulate above the middle; costae slender, percurrent, reddish brown; median leaf cells linear or nearly so, 60–100 µm × 6–9 µm; thin-walled to rather thick-walled; apical and basal cells shorter than the median cells. Gemmae numerous, sometimes few, green or brown, slenderly clavate to elongate-cylindrical. Dioicous. Antheridia small. Perichaetial leaves slender, flexuous, usually 2–4 mm long. Setae 2–4 cm long, reddish or brownish; capsules inclined, horizontal to pendulous, ovoid to pyriform, neck short, shrunk when dry; mouth narrower than urn; opercula conic, distinctly rostrate; peristome double; endostome segments linear, perforate; basal membrane very low; cilia rudimentary or absent. Spores 15–22 µm in diameter.
