This species is characterized by the presence of many flagelliform branches and the very long, slender leaf apices.

3. Trachypus longifolius Nog.   长叶扭叶藓   chang ye niu ye xian
J. Hattori Bot. Lab. 2: 55. 1947. Type: China. Taiwan, Tainan, Ozaki 8487 (NICH).
 
Plants very slender, brownish green, not glossy. Primary stems creeping; secondary stems elongate, to 5 cm long, more or less pinnately branched, with many slender, sparsely foliate flagelliform branches. Stem and branch leaves distinctly dimorphic; stem leaves narrowly ovate-lanceolate, branch leaves mostly narrowly lanceolate, to ca. 1.8 mm long, weakly plicate, slenderly long acuminate, often with long hyaline apices, not auriculate at the base; margins serrulate, slightly incurved below; costae indistinct or absent; leaf cells narrowly rhomboidal or linear, 3–10 times as long as wide, pluripapillose, thick-walled, sometimes sinuous; marginal cells not differentiated; basal cells hyaline, smooth; alar cells a few, quadrate or shortly rectangular. Sporophytes not seen.
