Zygodon obtusifolius is characterized by the ovate-ligulate to lingulate leaves to 1 mm, obtuse apices, bulging cells nearly obscuring the cell walls, setae to 15 mm, erect capsules to 1.5 mm, papillose 8 paired exostome teeth, and low endostomal basal membrane, and 8 hyaline segments. This is not a common species in Bolivia, and appears to be an element of semi-humid, seasonal montane forest. Alternative name for this species is Leratia obtusifolia (Hook.) Goffinet. This species is described and illustrated by Calabrese (2006).
