This species is characterized by the rather strongly dentate basal leafmargins (adjoining cells projecting), and gemmae produced in the leafaxil.Zygodon basidentatus Herzog, collected by Herzog in 1908 from the montane forest above Comarapa, is a synonym.
 
Esta especie se caracteriza por tener los márgenes muy marcadamente dentados en la porción basal (células adyacentes proyectándose), y yemas producidas en las axilas de las hojas. Zygodon basidentatus Herzog, colectada por Herzog en 1908 en el bosque montano encima de Comarapa, es un sinónimo.
