Leucobryum polakowskyi is distinguished by the very short leaves, 3-4.5 mm long, distal limb and base subequal in length, and in cross-section leucocysts in 3-4 layers above and below the chlorocyst layer at leaf base.
 
Leucobryum polakowskyi se distingue por tener las hojas muy cortas, 3-4.5 mm de largo, porción distal del limbo y base subigual en longitud, y en corte transversal leucocistos en 3-4 encima  y debajo de la capa de clorocistos en la base de la hoja.
