Leptodontium capituligerum is distinguished by the presence of a hyalodermis, semicircular costa, crown-like papillae, and most notable, the enlarged, mostly smooth (not papillose) hyaline basal cells; this latter feature is often readily observed with a dissecting microscope. Leptodontium gracile Müll. Hal. ex E. Britton and L. gracilescens Müll. Hal. ex E. Britton are synonyms; both names are based on collections made by Rusby in the department of La Paz, the former from Mapiri, the latter from Sorata.

Leptodontium gracile Müll. Hal. ex E. Britton y L. gracilescens Müll. Hal. ex E.
