Plants small, less than 10 mm high, yellowish brown, in dense tufts or compact. Stems short, slender, not branched or only branched at base, densely covered with reddish brown rhizoids. Leaves imbricate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, filiform at apex, often ending in hyaline, long awns; costae percurrent; median and upper leaf cells linear-rhomboidal or vermicular, thin-walled; basal cells rectangular, thin-walled. Dioicous. Setae short, ca. 5 mm long, curved; capsules elongate-ovoid; opercula conic; peristome double. Spores brownish, usually in tetrads.
