Habitat & Distribution:
Habitat: on forest ground or rocks, on soil along streams; alt. 600–3000 m.
Distribution: China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Africa, and South, Central, and North America.

Plants slender, in loose tufts. Primary stems and infertile branches prostrate, curved, sparsely foliate, with dense rhizoids; fertile branches erect, ca. 2–4 cm high, radiculose below, densely foliate above. Leaves oblong-elliptical or ovate-ligulate, 4–7 mm × 2.5–3.0 mm, usually undulate, suddenly narrowed at base, obtuse above; margins bordered by 2–4 rows of elongate cells, dentate above mid-leaf; costae percurrent; leaf cells small, irregularly hexagonal, ca. 25 µm × 10 µm, walls slightly thickened at corners. Synoicous. Setae solitary or clustered, ca. 3 cm long; capsules oblong-cylindrical, horizontal to pendulous.
