Plants robust, up to 7–8 cm long, yellowish green above, brown or dark brownish below, in extensive, loose tufts. Stems creeping or somewhat ascending, sparsely and irregularly branched; central strand absent. Leaves imbricately appressed when dry, erect-spreading when moist, narrowly ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, 4.5–5.0 mm long, plicate at leaf base, slightly concave and keeled above, acuminate and dentate at apex; margins recurved on both sides; costa slender, broader at base, disappearing below the apex; upper and median leaf cells rectangular to elongate-rectangular, 12–30 µm × 5–7 µm, sinuosely thick-walled, with dense and large papillae, often forked, unistratose at margins; basal cells nearly linear-rectangular, 20–60 µm × 5–7 µm, strongly sinuose; alar cells not differentiated, with only one row of rectangular, hyaline marginal cells at the base, 11–20 µm × 9–11 µm, with straight thin walls. Perichaetial leaves smaller than stem leaves, shortly ovate-lanceolate, often secund. Setae erect, reddish brown, 10–12 mm long, smooth, twisted when dry; capsules cylindrical, 2.0–3.0 mm long, brownish; opercula long rostrate; peristome teeth linear, divided to the base, densely papillose. Spores yellowish, 14–20 µm in diameter, densely papillose.
