Grimmia anodon is characterized most notably by the immersed, asymmetric capsules with the shorter and curved setae; additional features include the recurved margins (on one side), bistratose above along margin and irregularly on lamina, and upper and lower ends of the marginal cells thick walled.
 
La característica más notable que caracteriza a Grimmia anodon son las cápsulas inmersas, asimétricas con la seta corta y curvada; características adicionales incluyen los márgenes recurvados (en un lado), biestratificada en la porción superior del margen e irregularmente en la lámina, y células marginales con las paredes gruesas en los extremos superior e inferior.
