Ecology: Low montane (and probably premontane) forest; on trees. Elevation: 1200-1300 m (Venezuela: 1230 m, Ecuador: 1200-1300 m). Distribution: Venezuela, Ecuador and Brazil.
Groutiella wagneriana has been characterized by Vitt (1979) small ligulate leaves.1.0-1.4 mm, obtusely apiculate apices, smooth cells, seta 3.0-4.0 mm, and capsules 1.4-1.7 mm. Vitt suggests that this species may be close to G. apiculata (Hook.) H.A. Crum & Steere. The taxonomic status requires further study.
