Plants small, soft, dark green, brownish when old. Stems procumbent, ca. 3 cm long, irregularly branched; central strand present; paraphyllia sparse, filamentous. Stem leaves appressed when dry, spreading when moist, ovate to oblong-ovate, with a widely lanceolate apex, ca. 1 mm long; margins serrate; costa reaching 3/4 the leaf length; median leaf cells quadrate to hexagonal, 5–15 µm wide, thick-walled, unipapillose; branch leaves oblong-ovate, with a short lanceolate apex, rarely obtuse. Perichaetial leaves up to 2 mm long, widely lingulate. Setae yellowish brown, 8–10 mm long; capsules erect to nearly erect or pendulous, oblong-cylindrical; peristome features the same as those of H. microphyllum (Hedw.) Broth. Spores papillose.
